MEASURING SYSTEMS IN THE AGE OF GLOBAL COMPUTER NETWORKS Tadeusz P. Dobrowiecki, Tamás Mészáros Department of Measurement and Information Systems Technical University of Budapest, Abstract. In the paper authors investigate the implications of the availability of global computer networks in the measurement practice. Hardware, software, but particularly new concepts related to the global networks offer numerous prospects but also pose considerable challenge. Some of the new developments explore only temporary advantages, some seem superficial, and some are still very far fetched and oriented toward the future. The integration of the measurement equipment into global networks would require a reconsideration of certain properties of the measuring systems, and the role of the system controllers in particular.
