Social Events
Pre-conference ExcursionOn Sunday (May 20) a pre-conference excursion will be organised to the Danube Bend. This is a full day (10h00-18h00) guided excursion by bus in the surroundings of Budapest. The following places will be visited:- Esztergom: Basilica, the oldest royal and ecclesiastical residence, (text in Hungarian, please look at the pictures) - Visegrád: Fortress, ruins of the Castle, (text in Hungarian, please look at the pictures) - Szentendre: Village Museum, Old town, Margit Kovács Museum (fine pottery). (text in Hungarian, please look at the pictures) Lunch will be served in Visegrád. This program is not included in the registration fee. Price: 100 DEM (~USD 47)/person, including transportation, entry tickets, guidance, and lunch. Departure is from the parking lot of the BCC (conference venue), Jagelló út side on May 20, at 10h00. Reservations for the excursion should be made in advance by sending an e-mail to the organisers. Please note that because the excursion starts before the conference, advance payment by credit card is required. Please mention in your email how you want to pay or how you have already paid. Accompanying Persons' ProgramsSpouses of participants are welcome at the conference site. Beside the pre-conference excursion described above, two more tours are to be offered for companions.
A sightseeing tour in Budapest
will be organised on Monday (May 21). This will be a half day guided
sightseeing tour (9h30-13h00) in Budapest by bus, organised at the
beginning of the meeting, enabling companions to get acquainted with the
city. Among several famous sights the following places will be visited:
Heroes' Square, Buda
Castle, Matthias
Church, Fisherman's
Bastion, Gellért
Hill, Citadel, Basilica, Castle, etc.
Excursion to Gödöllõ,
a half a day guided tour (9h30-13h00) by bus to a historical
town near Budapest will be organised on Wednesday (May 23). The
town's greatest treasure and draw for tourists is its 250 year-old Royal
Palace. Visitors can see the living quarters of Emperor Franz Josef
and Empress Elizabeth (Sisi), and the newly renovated palm-house, holding
